Can I add a valance to my awning at a later date?

Can I add LED lighting to my patio cover after delivery?

  • Integrated louver LED lighting is impossible post-production. LED strips are built into the louvers during manufacturing. New LED lights would require the louvered roof to be completely replaced.

  • LED spots cannot be inserted into the frame afterwards either; the openings for the LED spots are machined during production;

  • What’s left? You can add LED strips to the drainage system. Get in touch with your Brustor dealer to find out how. They’ll tell you about the options and draw up a related quote.

Extreme weather conditions

It’s freezing. What should I do?

Patio covers

Always ensure that the louvers are open in freezing weather. Some Brustor pergolas are equipped with built-in frost protection. Ensure it’s switched on in time because the default setting may be off. The default setting depends on how old your pergola is and the dealer who installed it. Enabling this feature prevents pergola damage. Once temperatures fall to about 3° Celsius, the louvers open automatically. This prevents the louvers from freezing together and cracking or breaking the next time the roof is opened. Long story short? Frost protection is essential for safeguarding louvered roofs in freezing weather.

For frost protection-related questions and concerns, contact your Brustor dealer. Use our website’s dealer locator to find your local Brustor detailer’s contact details.

Does your sun shading solution also have screens? If you don’t need them, retract them. This will prevent them from getting damp and freezing.

Retractable awnings

Freezing temperatures in the forecast? Close your awning quickly. Once your awning is stored safely in its housing, it’s safe from exposure to harsh weather conditions like frost, wind, and rain. Did the fabric accidentally get wet? If so, wait until it’s dry before retracting it. Retracting wet fabric increases the long-term likelihood of mould and mildew buildup.

Is there a storm brewing? Gusty wind and buckets of rain? We recommend retracting the awning pronto, even when wet. As soon as the wind and rain die down, extend the awning to let it dry out. Keeping your awning dry is important for prolonging its life.

What should I do with strong winds on the horizon?

Are strong or gale-force winds predicted? If so, open your pergola’s louvers to a 45° angle, allowing the wind to blow through with minimal resistance. Fully retract all screens. Retractable awnings should also be closed and locked down.

Brustor patio cover and awning maintenance

What kind of maintenance does my Brustor solution require?

Brustor patio covers and awnings are incredibly low maintenance.

The basic rule? Regularly clear out your awning’s drainage. Your pergola’s position determines how often you’ll need to do this. On a related note, it’s important to frequently check and remove any obstructions from the drainage system.

In terms of cleaning, periodic pergola cleaning will do. And we tell you how to do that in detail.

Remember, awnings and screens should always be fully retracted after use to prevent the fabric from getting wet. If you accidentally leave them open during a rain shower, wait until the fabric is dry before retracting. That will prevent the accumulation of dirt and mould. If it’s blustery outside, wait until the wind dies down before expanding the fabric.

Did you know you can even wash your awning and screens? Keep reading to find out how.

Is it safe to use a pressure washer?

We don’t recommend using a pressure washer to clean your Brustor product. The force of the water could damage the louvers or frame paint. Check our website, instead, for helpful pergola and awning cleaning tips and tricks.

How do I use the cleaning kit?

Our Brustor cleaning kit makes cleaning aluminium covers and awning housings a snap. You can get the job done in three easy steps:

  • Start by removing any spots on your aluminium roof, pergola, or awning (housing and/or arms) with lukewarm water and mild soap. We strongly advise against using a pressure washer.

  • Stubborn spots and stains can be removed with the Allround Cleaner afterwards. This product cleans and degreases powder-coated (not-ferrous) metals, PVC, and other synthetic materials. It removes soot, oil, fuel oil, graphite, moss, insect residue, petrol, and other substances. Please remember that this product is not intended for use in full sun or hot weather.

  • Next, apply a protective layer with the ALU Structure Protector. This product cleans and protects powder-coated metals against UV rays and salty sea air. It also prevents the formation and accumulation of salt, moss, and stains.
